Start with useful words
Slovak uses Latin letters with additional marks, such as č, š, ž and ľ. Keep these marks when you practise writing, because they are part of the spelling. A simplified English-letter pronunciation hint cannot represent every Slovak sound exactly.
Build a short sentence
Begin with Volám sa… (My name is…), Bývam v… (I live in…), and Učím sa po slovensky (I am learning Slovak). Noun forms can change with their job in a sentence, so learn short phrases before trying to build every sentence from separate dictionary forms.
Read and respond
Read Ahoj. Volám sa Jana. Učím sa po slovensky. Identify the greeting, the name and what Jana is learning. Use Dobrý deň for a polite daytime greeting to someone you do not know.
Use a small study routine
Read the examples for two minutes, cover the English meanings and recall them, then write a short response. Check your spelling and compare your sentence with a model. Return to difficult words tomorrow rather than repeating a long list in one sitting.
Continue in School Word
Create an account, choose Slovak as your learning language, and open the language, vocabulary or classroom track. English explanations support the learning material. Course stages organise practice; they are not an external proficiency certificate. Save your work and return for another short session when you are ready.
